SCHUMI WINS IN MALAYSIA

Michael Schumacher won a dramatic Malaysian Grand Prix after Ferrari's clever tyre strategy while the safety car was out stood him in good stead. A sudden downpour soon after the start saw the cars dive into the pits for wet tyres and the two Ferraris queued, one behind the other, for over a minute. Both emerged on intermediate, rather than wet tyres, and as the track dried stormed through the field to take a strong lead. The end of the race saw only 14 cars left on track with a top six of M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, Frentzen, R Schumacher, Hakkinen.
